An In-Depth, Multiple-Case Study of Families' Experiences with Accessing Residential Care for Children with High Level Needs
Residential care is a critical treatment option for children with complex, high-level needs who cannot be safely supported at home. Yet, policies have positioned RC as a “last resort,” limiting funding and accessibility of RC for children who need more intensive services. This 1.5-hour webinar will share findings from a multiple-case study exploring caregivers’ experiences with accessing and navigating RC for children with complex needs. Using the Caregiver Journey Framework, we’ll examine preplacement, placement, and postplacement phases, highlight systemic barriers, and identify actionable impact points for improving care access, quality, and effectiveness. Key recommendations include policy reforms, pilot programs, and practical tools to support transitions and discharge planning.
