Engage. Support. Teach: Making Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Work in Alternative Treatment Settings

Tuesday, September 9, 2025

12 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. CST

This comprehensive webinar provides an in-depth introduction to Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) in alternative treatment settings, highlighting its foundational principles, including the token economy system, tiered levels of support, and the distinct differences between PBIS and traditional point systems. Participants will explore how PBIS is an evidence-based, non-punitive framework that emphasizes earned reinforcement over response cost strategies. The session will also cover essential training practices such as new hire onboarding, refresher courses, and on-the-spot coaching that embed Behavioral Skills Training (BST) techniques. Attendees will learn strategies to guide and teach appropriate behaviors through modeling, behavior-specific praise, and structured behavior expectations using a curriculum-based approach. A significant focus will be placed on relationship-building supports, including the use of a dynamic Behavior Matrix as a living document to support rapport and connection. The webinar also emphasizes the importance of data-informed decision-making through dashboards, behavioral recommendations, and tier band analysis. Key preventative team structures will be discussed for their role in proactive intervention, and the alignment of PBIS strategies with active treatment goals will be explored to reinforce treatment plan objectives. Finally, we will address the critical components of maintaining fidelity and sustainability, reviewing processes, outcomes, and the long-term significance of effective PBIS implementation.
