Integrating the Science of Hope into Child Welfare Programs to Enhance Practice

Monday, September 16, 2024

1 - 2:30 p.m. CST

Hope is a cognitive process that can be enhanced, modeled, and, more importantly, restored during a crisis. This presentation will highlight research on practice models adopted, the evidence-based training Together Facing the Challenge, and Hope Centered Caregiving to demonstrate how caseworkers, foster parents, counselors, and others can adopt simple strategies that enhance hopeful thinking among children and youth. Finally, the presentation will provide specific methods that can be used immediately to increase hopeful thinking and improve essential child outcomes.

Presented by:

Dr. Angela Pharris Dr. Pharris is an Assistant Professor in the Anne & Henry Zarrow School of Social Work at the University of Oklahoma, Director of the Child Welfare Impact Institute, and Senior Research Fellow at the Hope Research Center. Her research is focused on the application and implementation of hope-centered and trauma-informed practices that impact human service programs. Angela’s current research is in child welfare and human service organizations and the application of the Hope Centered and Trauma-Informed framework. This research informed the development of the “Hope Centered and Trauma InformedÒ” training program. Hope is a psychological strength, a buffer to stress, adversity, and burnout, and a hopeful mindset that improves organizational and individual outcomes.
