Meeting the Educational Needs of Unaccompanied Children

Friday, May 14th

2:00 pm - 3:30 pm CST

3:00 pm - 4:30 pm EST

12:00 pm - 1:30 pm PST

Providers across the country have expressed interest in serving unaccompanied children, but it’s important to understand the ways in which service delivery differs from domestic foster and shelter care. Education is one of these key differences. Unaccompanied children in short-term shelter care or transitional foster care are not enrolled in public schools, but they still  have a right to access meaningful educational opportunities. What education obligations do licensed providers in the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) network have to unaccompanied children?

If you are a provider who would like to join in this work as aligned with your capacity and expertise, but you have questions and need to learn more about what it means to contract directly with ORR and serve unaccompanied children, this webinar is for you. Participants considering providing UC care through ORR will learn general information about educational assessment and schooling requirements and have an opportunity to ask clarifying questions of current ORR-contracted UC providers. There will be ongoing opportunities to access technical assistance after this webinar.
